(from the Gospel of Luke)
“…and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.” — Luke 9:2
Luke 9 marks a turning point—Jesus doesn’t just minister to His disciples, He now ministers through them. He gives them power and authority, sends them out, and invites them into participation in His mission. Pastor Scott reminded us that God’s purpose has always included His people. When Jesus sends, He also equips. And when we step into His calling, we discover that His provision always exceeds our limitations.
To Proclaim the Person of Jesus Christ
v 1–2, 6, 11
- Jesus sends His disciples with a clear mission: proclaim and heal.
- The message is not about us—it is about who Jesus is.
- Wherever Jesus is presented, lives are impacted.
Because Presenting Jesus Promotes Questions & Persecution
v 5, 7, 9
- Not everyone receives the message the same way.
- Some reject it, others question it, and some oppose it.
- Even rulers like Herod were unsettled by who Jesus might be.
To Push Past Perceived Limits & Personal Provision
v 3, 12–13, 17
- Jesus tells them to go with very little—forcing dependence on God.
- When resources seem insufficient, Jesus multiplies what is given.
- Five loaves and two fish become more than enough in His hands.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Jesus shares His mission with His followers—not just His presence.
- The message of Christ will always provoke a response.
- God’s power is revealed most clearly in our dependence.
- What seems insufficient becomes abundant in Jesus’ hands.
- Obedience often comes before understanding.
CALL TO ACTION
- Step into your purpose: You are called to represent Jesus where you are.
- Speak boldly: Don’t hold back from sharing who Christ is.
- Trust His provision: Bring what you have—Jesus will multiply it.
- Stay faithful: Even when responses are mixed, keep going.
Jesus doesn’t just call you—He sends you with power.
