God from Luke’s Eyes to Yours
“The Key of Knowledge” | June 21, 2026
(from the Gospel of Luke)
“Woe to you lawyers also! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.” — Luke 11:52
Jesus' strongest words were often reserved not for obvious sinners, but for religious leaders who appeared righteous while neglecting the heart of God. In this passage, Jesus exposes the danger of outward religion without inward transformation. Pastor Scott reminded us that true knowledge of God is not merely accumulated—it is lived. The key of knowledge opens the door to a life fully surrendered to God, expressed both inwardly and outwardly, no matter the cost.
Give Your ‘Inside’ to God, & His Message
v 39–40, 42
- Jesus challenged the Pharisees' focus on external appearances.
- God is concerned with both the inside and the outside of our lives.
- Genuine faith begins with a transformed heart.
Religion focuses on appearances; Jesus transforms from the inside out.
Offer Outwardly Your Deeds to God & Others
v 41, 43–44
- A changed heart naturally produces visible acts of love and generosity.
- Jesus condemned spiritual pride that sought recognition over service.
- Kingdom living expresses itself through humble care for others.
Take One for the Team, No Matter the Cost
v 46, 49–51
Referenced: First Epistle of John 3:12 and Second Chronicles 24:20–21
- God's messengers have often faced rejection for speaking truth.
- Following Jesus sometimes means bearing burdens others avoid.
- Faithfulness is measured by obedience, not popularity.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- God desires inward transformation, not merely outward compliance.
- Spiritual knowledge should lead to spiritual maturity.
- Pride can obscure the very truth we claim to know.
- Authentic faith serves others rather than seeking recognition.
- Following Jesus may be costly, but it is always worth it.
CALL TO ACTION
- Examine your heart: Ask God to reveal areas where appearance has replaced authenticity.
- Live what you know: Allow biblical truth to shape daily decisions and relationships.
- Serve humbly: Look for opportunities to bless others without seeking credit.
- Stand faithfully: Be willing to follow Christ even when obedience comes at a cost.
The key of knowledge is not simply knowing about God—it is allowing His truth to transform your life.
